Kazakhstan and Russia are working on the issue of joint production of a vaccine against COVID-19, stated the Vice Minister of Health, Chief State Sanitary Doctor of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Kiyasov at a briefing at the Central Communications Service under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Trend reports with reference to Kazinform MIA.
"The mentioned issue was raised during a telephone conversation between the Heads of State. Currently, it is being worked out. Let me explain that this idea arose literally the day before, now I cannot say anything more specific," Yerlan Kiyasov said, answering a question from journalists.
He noted that as of November 12, 198 already known and confirmed vaccine candidates are being developed in the world. There are 42 vaccines undergoing clinical trials in humans.
"Currently, among the most promising, we consider three vaccines for which the third stage of clinical trials is being carried out. This is the Oxford vaccine, as well as Russian Sputnik 5 vaccine. A vaccine is being developed in Kazakhstan, at a research institute security problems of the Science Committee of the Ministry of Education," Yerlan Kiyasov said.
Earlier on the website of the President of the Russian Federation, it was reported that during a telephone conversation between the Presidents of Kazakhstan and Russia, a number of topical topics of the bilateral agenda were raised with an emphasis on intensifying cooperation in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, including plans to organize joint production of vaccines in Kazakhstan.
