Kyrgyzstan opens up its airspace for use by Tajik airlines

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb.4. Kyrgyzstan has given permission to use the county's airspace to Tajik air companies for operating flights from Tajik Dushanbe to China’s Urumqi and back, the Civil Aviation Agency of Kyrgyzstan informs, Trend reports via Kyrgyz media.

According to the information, Tajikistan’s Somon Air has made a request to allow the company to use the airspace of Kyrgyzstan from February 8 through March 21, 2023, for carrying out the flights on the Dushanbe — Urumqi — Dushanbe route, and from February 5 for the flights on Dushanbe — Novosibirsk — Dushanbe.

The flights will operate on Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737-900 aircraft.

Somon Air has been operating internationally since 2008. The company is a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

In May 2021, Kyrgyzstan imposed a temporal ban on entrance and exit, stay, travel and transition through the territory of Kyrgyzstan for Tajik citizens over the tense situation between the two countries.

Tajikistan resumes direct air communication with China on February 8, 2023, after a three-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the beginning, the flights will operate once a week, and from March, their frequency will increase to two times a week.

Earlier this year, Tajikistan also announced the launching of new flights from Dushanbe to Georgia’s Tbilisi and Azerbaijan’s Baku this spring.
