Kazakhstan is in danger while ex-chairman of Kazakhstan's BTA Bank Mukhtar Ablyazov is remaining at large, Kazakh President's adviser Yermukhamet Yertysbayev said.
"Ablyazov can take the most extreme steps, and while the decision of the English Court has not entered into force and Ablyazov is at large, no doubt, he can undertake the most radical actions. Do you need evidence? Ablyazov once again has recently urged via Internet to give no support to the occupation regime. Thus, he believes that our country is occupied. But the invaders have been fought against at all times. Thus, our law enforcement agencies should be vigilant," Yertysbayev said in an interview to Liter newspaper.
The criminal case against Ablyazov was launched in Kazakhstan in early 2009. He is alleged to have conducted great fraud while in charge of the BTA Bank. After the case began Ablyazov fled to the UK claiming asylum against political persecution. In May 2011 the British court refused from recognizing claims that the case was politically motivated and upheld the bank's claims. In February, 2012 the High Court sentenced Mukhtar Ablyazov to 22 months imprisonment for contempt of court. However, the sentence has not been carried out so far, because his whereabouts has not been established. According to the unapproved information, Ablyazov had left the UK to France.
According to some Kazakh media and officials, Ablyazov had a direct relationship to the mass riots in the city of Zhanaozen on December 16, 2011 when at least 14 people were killed.
Yertysbayev urged the Kazakh citizens to be vigilant too.
"Several explosions have recently taken place in the city of Dnepropetrovsk, some people died. Can such incident occur in our country? While state criminals with considerable financial resources are hidden abroad, everything can happen," Advisor to the President said.
