Kazakhstan to continue to take measures to prevent growth of tariffs for utilities

It is planned to continue work in Kazakhstan to prevent unjustified growth of tariffs for utilities, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of National Economy of Kazakhstan.

A meeting of the Tariff Policy Council was held under the chairmanship of Minister of National Economy Aset Irgaliyev on June 28 with the participation of members of the Senate and Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, representatives of central state bodies, deputy mayors of regions, the management of the Committee on Regulation of Natural Monopolies, as well as non-governmental organizations.

"Taking into account the current economic situation, the government is taking the measures to prevent unjustified growth of tariffs for utilities,” Irgaliyev added. “The work is also underway to maintain a balance of interests between consumers and entities of natural monopolies."

Chairman of the Committee on Regulation of Natural Monopolies Asan Darbayev spoke about the results of the activity of the Committee for 2020 and the tasks for the current year.

“As part of the execution of the instructions of the president in terms of the tariff policy, the control over the activity of natural monopoly entities was strengthened, the purchases made by natural monopoly entities were analyzed, the transparency of tariff formation and feedback from the population and reasonable tariffs for utility services were ensured,” Darbayev added.

"In 2021, it is planned to continue the work to prevent unjustified growth of tariffs for utilities and adherence to the corridor of contribution to the inflation from tariffs for regulated services of natural monopoly entities, approved by the Council on Economic Policy under the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan," Darbayev said.

Moreover, the composition of 17 regional commissions has been expanded, representatives of public associations have been included to attract more people to consider the issues of tariff setting.

Today, regional commissions include members of the regional local representative bodies, representatives of local executive bodies, representatives of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Atameken", NGOs, associations of private business entities, natural monopoly entities, and experts.

Following the meeting of the Council, Irgaliev gave instructions to prevent unjustified growth of tariffs, to ensure control over the targeted use of funds by monopolists, to protect consumer rights, and to perform well the tasks set before the Committee.
