Representative of Kazakhstan will be assigned SCO Secretary General in 2007

(Kazakhstan today) - President of Kazakhstan has told journalists that a representative of Kazakhstan will be assigned SCO Secretary General in 2007.

"As from January 2007 it will be a representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan, whose candidacy was approved by the heads of state" at the SCO summit yesterday, June 15, - the President of Kazakhstan said at a press conference in Shanghai, reports Trend.

A decision was made at the SCO summit to change the title of the head of organisation from the Executive Secretary to the Secretary General. A representative of Kazakhstan will assume the position of the Secretary General until 2009 in accordance with the principle of rotation. The term of Zhang Deguang, current SCO Executive Secretary, expires in late 2006.
