"The Iraqi people will not allow aliens (US) to decide on their behalf and foil their political plans in the region with strength and independence," ISNA news agency quoted Ahmadinejad as saying in a meeting with heads of Iraqi tribes in Baghdad.

The Iranian president accused the US of not only having tried to expose Iraq as "a backward and uncivilized nation", but also of provoking differences between Iraq and other Islamic nations.

"But they eventually failed and victory would be on the side of the Iraqi people," said Ahmadinejad who is well-known in Iran for his populist speeches.

While referring to the Israeli attacks on Gaza, Ahmadinejad once again questioned the Holocaust, saying: "Even if something like this (Holocaust) happened in Europe, why should the Palestinians pay the price for it and get killed or homeless."
